AS I write this March 13th,
I am looking out at the snow falling and I am trying to convince myself that
the 1999 sailing
season is here with events scheduled to start in only two weeks!
RACE EVENTS
The schedule was put together with a great deal of thought to try and
accommodate as many
members as possible and avoid conflicts with other club dates. The reason for
this is that many
of our active racing members sail/race regularly at other clubs (mainly Keowe
SC) as well as
Lake Norman and Lake Hartwell clubs. This also gives members from other clubs
the oportunity
to visit us at our invitational events.
Ray Tobias has again generously offerd to do the invitational event proposed
for June 26th
this has become known as the "Raygatta". This invitational event is hosted at
Asheville Sailing
Club and is open to all sailors from other clubs at no charge for a fun filled
day of racing
and participation with no tropies being awarded and no protest being allowed.
However, a great
number of door prizes are given out. As in previous years, the expenses for
this event cost the
club treasury nothing as all expenses are paid for by supportive business and
even by Ray
himself. However we need a few helpers to assist in race organisation, food
service and saftey.
Please contact Ray Tobias or Tim Slater if you can help.
SOCIAL EVENTS
An effort has been made to put together social events in addition to race
events. We have taken
ideas/events that we know work well.(Those who have never been to "pig picken"
have missed out.)
If anybody has more of these ideas let's hear about them and please consider
volunteering to
help out.
